Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 503 has entered into an interim agreement with the State of Oregon for a two-year union contract for 24,000 public employees. The government initially proposed a four-year contract with an increase of 1.68 per cent in 2019, a 1 per cent increase in 2020 and no guaranteed increase in 2021 or 2022. SEIU represents two trading units on campus. The largest unit consists of approximately 1,500 people on campus, often referred to as “classified staff,” who perform a wide range of important functions in areas such as health, facilities, administrative assistance, catering and information technology. The second unit is the UO Police Unit, made up of sworn police officers and distributors. The new SEIU CBA came into effect on November 1, 2019. The final version of the new CBA is now available. Oregon Public Universities and SEIU have reached an agreement on emergency medical leave as universities respond to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. The treaty has yet to be ratified by the members and the state of Oregon. Human services, transport, administrative services and revenues will increase between 10% and 15% over the next two years due to adjustment costs and increased pace. Those at the top of their salary range will see an average 10% increase over the same period. According to the union, the new contract contains the largest increases in public sector pay in a decade. “Faced with legal challenges and anti-union organization, Oregon`s public employees decided to stick together.
They got a contract that represents a significant investment in our state`s public services,” said Melissa Unger, Executive Director of Local 503, Oregon Public Broadcasting.
